Marilynjean's Review

The Snuza Hero has been a must-buy purchase for many of our customers. They view this item as an essential piece when they're both at home and on the go - and that's the best part of this baby monitor - it's small, light, and does its job wherever and whenever its needed. We're big fans of the Snuza Hero for its "hero" rumble feature. Unlike its sister product, the Snuza Go, Hero will vibrate gently if it detects your baby motionless. The vibrations are often enough to restart the breathing mechanisms and save your baby's life. We praise the Snuza Hero for its vibration and alarm features, but also recommend that the device be paired with a video or sound monitor for maximum safety.

Midwife's Review

Although the Snuza Hero is not strictly a medical device, it is a safe and reliable tool for monitoring breathing movement. I can recommend this baby monitor as an excellent addition to any crib for its small size, convenience of its portability, its rumble feature, and its loud alarm. As the Snuza Hero detects breathing based on motion, there may be a couple of false alarms if your baby rolls around a lot while sleeping. Ensure the device is securely attached to the baby's diaper and that your baby is lying on its back, as recommended by the World Health Organization to help prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), to prevent these false alarms. The Snuza Hero will emit an amber, and later red light when the device is low on battery, which is a nice feature so you can rest assured the device will not quit without warning.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does Hero differ from the Snuza Go?
Hero has an additional vibration feature which causes the unit to vibrate gently after 15 seconds where no movement has been detected. This often serves to reassert the baby's breathing, but if no further movement is detected, Hero emits an alarm. Snuza Go! will go directly to alarm mode after 15 seconds of no movement.

2. What exactly is the vibration on the Hero model for?
This is a proactive stimulator which attempts to rouse your baby after 15 seconds of no movement. Very often, if a baby is still for this long, a little tactile stimulation gets the movement going again. And of course, if it fails to rouse the baby, the alarm will sound after a total of 20 seconds of no movement.

3. How are the Snuza Hero and Snuza Go monitors different from an 'under the mattress' monitor?
Although 'under the mattress' monitors also monitor movement in a similar manner to the Snuza monitors, these monitors are generally not mobile. Hero can be left attached to the baby for constant monitoring or kept in the carrying case, attached and activated whenever required, no matter where the baby is.

4. How easy is it to use Hero?
Very easy. Just clip it onto your baby's diaper and turn it on. This shouldn't take more than a few seconds.

5. Is a Snuza safe?
Definitely! A baby's safety is paramount. Both Snuza Hero and Snuza Go utilize an ultra-low voltage (3.6V) battery that emits no radiation and has no side effects.

6. Does the monitor come in contact with the baby?
The Snuza mobile movement monitors clip onto the diaper and the sensor located at the tip of Hero needs to be in contact with the baby in the area of the navel. There may be a thin layer of clothing (eg. a onesie) between the sensor and the skin.
